Tire Amnesty Taking Place In Fresno

FRESNO (KMJ) — A tire amnesty is happening in Fresno this weekend, to help rid the city of any rubber waste that may be piling up.

“We usually collect between 1000, and 2400 tires per event”, says the City of Fresno’s Ana Manzula.

Every one of them goes to a center to get recycled, with the rubber getting a new lease of life.

“The tires are shredded. The steel belt is recycled. The tire’s crumbs are used in asphalt, they’re used in tracks, they’re used in playgrounds. It works out really really well”.

You’ll need to have either a utility bill or your drivers license on you, it’s as it’s open only to residents of the city.

A maximum of nine tires can be dropped off, and the city asks that no business-generated, tractor or diesel tires will be permitted.

It’s all taking place at the Target at 3173 E. Shields Ave, between the hours of 8am and 12 noon.
