President Barack Obama’s executive action that could protect millions of immigrants from deportation will remain on hold.
The Justice Department had asked the court to reverse a decision from a Texas judge that temporarily blocked the president’s plan.
Governors in twenty-six states sued, saying Obama’s action is unconstitutional.
Under President Obama’s expanded initiative- undocumented parents of children who are citizens would be able to apply for legal status if they came here before 2010, but the Texas ruling blocked the initiative.
Two of three judges on a panel on the US Court of Appeals 5th Circuit, today, left the injunction in place.
“Sometime you hear folks say we should just deport them back and make them start all over but I’m not exactly sure how that serves families well especially when its our system that’s really creating that bottleneck.” – Fresno City Council Member Oliver Baines.
