(KMJ) According to a critical new state audit, The Univ. of California lowered its admission standards for non-California residents thereby undermining the chances of thousands of qualified in-state students of a U.C. education. One key reason, according to the auditor, out-of-state students pay about 30% more in tuition.
But U.C. President Janet Napolitano scoffed at the report and maintained their admission practices overwhelmingly favor California students. She says they’re adding about 10,000 in-state students in the next two years — but the audit points out that’s only because U.C. was pressured by state lawmakers to do so.
Now, some lawmakers are asking for tougher entrance requirements and an enrollment cap on out-of-staters
