Break In Unsolved Hate Crime Against Sikh

HATE CRIME

(KMJ) Fresno – A break comes in an unsolved hate crime against a member of the Fresno Sikh Community.

Police Chief Jerry Dyer and Fresno District Attorney Lisa Smittcamp – join forces in the arrest of two suspects.

Working with the DA’s office, the Fresno Police Department has arrested two people in the hate crime, with help from the FBI, and video shot from a home nearby the site, showing the scene back on December 26th, when a car struck 68 year old Amrick Singh, and left him in the road.

Police Chief Jerry Dyer say Singh was first attacked by the two men – close to the intersection of Shields and Brawley, they drove off -then returned to run him over.

“The video is very helpful in a number of areas, it’s very compelling – it shows it was intentional of that vehicle veering towards Mr. Singh.”- Police Chief Jerry Dyer.

At 9:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, a 17 year-old was arrested in Northeast Fresno and 22 year old Daniel Wilson Jr was also arrested.

Both have been booked and charge with conspiracy, assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse with hate crime enhancements, and the DA Lisa Smittcamp will consider filing charges with the juvenile as in adult.

“Hate crimes are despicable crimes, when people are victimized simply because they are a certain racial background, a certain religion- this is completely unacceptable.” -DA Lisa Smittcamp.
