One Killed In Fresno Officer Involved Shooting

FRESNO OIS

(KMJ) – Fresno Police say officers tried to speak to two men “acting suspiciously” while hanging out outside a liquor store on Blackstone near Yale just before 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Investigators say when officers approached the men, they took off running. Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer told the media one of the suspects then turned down a nearby alley.

When the officer confronted the man, Dyer says he reached for a revolver from his waistband. The officer ordered the man to show his hands. And when he did not obey the order, that officer fired two rounds at the man.

The suspect, described as a Hispanic man in his 20s, was hit in the chest and later died at Community Regional Medical Center.

The officer who fired the shots will be placed on administrative leave. And Dyer said investigators will study footage from his body camera to determine the sequence leading up to the shooting.

Fresno Police say the second man has not been found.

This is the fourth officer-involved shooting in Fresno this year.
