FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Selling items on sites like eBay and Amazon requires some skills and experience.

The most successful sellers often write a good description, ensure there are appealing photos, and of course, offer a competitive price.

Something intriguing: men seem to have an edge in this virtual marketplace

A new study published in the journal Science says female sellers receive about 80 cents, on average, for every dollar that a male gets for a new item.

Researchers say the findings are surprising, given that online sellers aren’t required to state their gender.
