FRESNO (KMJ) — Two scholarship programs are now open to valley children, to help them in their further education.
The Fresno Unified Scholarship Fund helps students in need achieve higher education, with funds coming from employees and the community.
The District says previous recipients overcame significant barriers on their journey to academic success, including losing parents, becoming homeless, and extreme poverty.
Last year, 42 scholarships were awarded totaling of $57,000.

The other scholarship now open is on the same theme. The PG&E ‘Better Together STEM Scholarship’ program is offering a $1 million to local students, to assist them achieve a life of science, technology, engineering or mathematics.
“The energy industry needs them, our communities need them and California needs them”, said Helen Burt, senior vice president of external affairs and public policy for PG&E. “Our Better Together STEM Scholarships are creating opportunities for today’s students to reach their full potential”.
Winners could receive up to $20,000 per year for up to five years.
