FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Smoking marijuana regularly as a teen may prevent you from remembering certain words when you’re middle-aged.

In a study published by the Journal of the American Medical Association, 5,000 young adults between 18 and 30 were followed for 25 years. By the end, 3,400 participants were left.

Researchers say lifetime exposure to marijuana was associated with worse performance in several areas of cognitive function.

Marijuana use is increasingly common among adolescents and young American adults, with pot use more common among high school students than tobacco use.

One of the biggest reasons, is the illusion that marijuana is not as harmful.
