At KMJ News, it is best if the news people stay out of the news … KMJ’s Michael Knight reports this story happened right in front of him …

There was a big fire on my street last night, it went to three alarm and it was, for our neighborhood, a big deal. A beautiful, historic home was lost, probably by the negligence of someone building a fire in the basement — the neighbors say there has been a number of homeless people using the old home, and finally, it too, fell on hard times.

When the house was fully engulfed, as it was from the inside-out, all of its old architectural lines stood out in bright flame, with otngues of fire belching through the roof. Looking through the double-large front door I could see the great staircase to the second floor in full flame.

Hours later, when the blaze was mostly out, the once white house, was only black walls; black pillars;black shapes standing where the house had stood; a smoldering pyre of some impressive size. There was a certain grandeur that survived even in the ruins while the fire crew still worked far above in giant silver spraying towers pouring water relentlessly on the last of the Rehorn Home.

It was old home from an another era, sitting out of place at S & Mariposa, first, the streets changed all around it, and now it’s gone in one night.
