FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Crash rates for self-driving vehicles are lower than those of conventional automobiles, according to a new Virginia Tech report.
Autonomous cars have a rate of 3.2 crashes per million miles, compared to 4.2 for traditional vehicles.
The report was commissioned by Google, who’s been testing the technology here in California.
However, it’s too soon to conclude that self-driving cars are safer overall, given the lack of sufficient data.
