FRESNO (KMJ) — There will be a little bit more purple in the City of Fresno on Tuesday.
The Larry C. Shehadey clock tower on Fresno State’s Save Mart Center, The Lighthouse For Children in Downtown Fresno, and Fresno City Hall will all be purple until Wednesday morning.
It’s to commemorate the Purple Light Walk, which is being held in honor of World Prematurity Day on Tuesday November 17th 2015.
“Preterm birth is the number one cause of infant mortality”, says Executive Director First 5 Fresno County. “In Fresno County we have one of the highest preterm births and we want to ensure that we are supporting our mamas to figure out a way to reduce the preterm births here in Fresno County”.
She adds that they want everyone to know about the dangers of birth before 37 weeks of pregnancy as well as an infant complications that can follow.
“The average preterm birth state wide is around 6-8%. In Fresno County we’re over 10%”.
The walk is taking place Tuesday night in Downtown Fresno between 5.30pm and 6.30pm.
