Petition Started To Hold Kamala Harris Accountable For Heald Closure

FRESNO (KMJ) — Heald College is now closed – and students are being invited onto campus Wednesday and Thursday to collect their belongings and get their transcripts.

It’s been a traumatic time for students – after the school announced its closure over the weekend.

One of those students whose program was cut short was Letiticia Fernandez. She was mid-way through a medical assistant program – and had just finished treatment for colon cancer.

“It makes a big impact when you’re feeling sick”, she says. “I thought I’ll help somebody and now to start over I don’t know what’s going to happen. I’m really upset”.

But some students aren’t going to go quietly into the night. Two from Salida have started a petition to demand that Attorney General Kamala Harris and the Department of Education be held accountable for the closure.

They say they want officials to know that they have effectively punished the students – and they want answers for what happened.

A link to the petition – which is almost half way to its goal of a thousand signatures – can be found here.
