FRESNO (KMJ) — The weather has gone, the dark clouds have passed, and the sky is expected to be blue again.
But we did get a fair bit of rain Monday morning, and figures from the national weather service show the amount we did get was substantial.
Looking across the valley, Fresno came in at number one with 0.96 inches, Merced at number two with 0.95 inches, and in third place Madera with 0.88 inches.
There is a distinct divide between the north and south valley, as the bottom three were Paso Robles, Lemoore, and Bakersfield.
“This is just one storm system so you can never attribute one individual storm that is influenced by El Nino”, says NWS forecaster Dan Harty. “But its definitely a promising start to our water season”.
When rain falls, it all has to go somewhere. Fresno City Council’s Director of Public Works Scott Mozier says the city’s drainage all worked as predicted.
“The systems doing really well. All the underpasses like Wishon and Fresno Street, Shaw and Marks, are all doing really well”.
“We had checked out the pumps ahead of time to be prepared. We’ve had some calls just about storm drains, inlets blocked”.
We convert our regular street maintenance crews into storm response and they’ve been out clearing those drains of leaves”.
The cold front that brought the rain has been accompanied by distinctly colder temperatures than we were experiencing last week, so it seems fall is here and winter is coming.
