Could that Halloween face paint be toxic for your kids?
This Halloween – could you be smearing poison onto your child’s face?
Some Halloween make up can filled with chemicals, and the FDA does not require companies to list heavy metals or harmful ingredients on product labels.
Tests from back in 2009 by the “Campaign For Safe Cosmetics” found toxic chemicals in many make-up kits sold at Halloween stores, and not much has changed since then.
10 of the popular children’s face paints had low levels of lead – other skin irritants have been found such as nickel, cobalt and chromium.
New York Senator Chuck Schumer has called for stricter policies regard the make-up, much of it brought in from China.
The only way to find out if a make-up contains lead or could be toxic is to test it in a laboratory – something most parents won’t be doing.
