FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Patients who undergo weight-loss procedures often report improved health, greater confidence, and some even say they earn more money.

However, for some, it’s ended, or nearly ended, in tragedy.

According to a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, suicide rates are up to four times higher, among those who’ve undergone bariatric surgery.

Researchers believe it can be attributed to the increased stress, brought about by the required lifestyle changes, and say it’s a side effect for which doctors need to look out.
