FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The Fresno County unemployment rate fell to an 8-year low of 8.1% in September, as non-farm employment grew by 2,700 jobs.

Madera, Merced, Tulare, and Kern counties also posted a decline in their jobless rates.

Statewide, the September unemployment rate dropped to 5.9%, with a gain of 8,200 jobs.

The U.S. employment rate was unchanged at 5.1%.
