Hwy 58 Remains Closed Due to Massive Mudslide

(KMJ)  The California Highway Patrol reopened the Grapevine late Friday afternoon more than 24 hours after it was shut down due to flash floods and mudslides.

However, as of Saturday night, Highway 58 near Tehachapi remains closed, due to a devastating mudslide that trapped hundreds of drivers.

The California Department of Transportation said it expected the State Route 58 shutdown would be “a long term closure” and advised motorists to seek alternative routes.  SR 58 is a very popular route linking Central and Southern California to Las Vegas, NV.

Despite the destruction there have been no serious injuries or deaths reported.
