A stand off in downtown Fresno has ended – after SWAT surrounded the home of a man said to be carrying an automatic rifle.
Police say the suspect – Johnny Vega was first seen this morning – roaming around CRMC with a rifle – then traveling to Clark Avenue – close to where it meets McKenzie Avenue There he knocked on the door of an acquaintance’s home – hiding the gun underneath a blanket. he then threatened the acquaintance – suggesting he was seeing Vega’s girlfriend.
“He robs the victim – tries to get money from him”, says Lieutenant Joe Gomez. “The victim has no money – he then robs him of his cellphone and puts him in the bathroom and says ‘stay there and I’ll come back and shoot you'”.
The victim then escapes – and Vega rushed down the street to his own apartment. SWAT then descended – and eventually managed to get the 38 year old out. Vega is now in police custody.
