American football is making quite an impression on a group of players from Munster, Germany who are practicing the sport…with coaches from Bullard High School.
About 45 people including kids from ages 10 and up – boys and a girl in the group are working out and getting on the field field training from the Bullard High School coaches.
The football coaches remarked that the players were very polite and very tall – some as big as NFL players!
“We are just overwhelmed, I got some feedback from my German students saying “Wow, this is just like being in the movies,” because actually it is for them. They have never been to the states before, they have never experienced anything like this. When they look around, and see your housing or just your shopping areas – that’s actually what they see in the movies.” -Elke Wirtz, Sister Cities Exchange Program, Germany
Elke Wirtz is from the German side of the Sister Cities exchange program that coordinated the visit.
Wirtz says its been beyond successful and she hopes to continue the program, next year with more host families.
Nick Yovino Jr, the Sports Exchange Administrator, who coordinated the visit on the American side, says they would like to get the Bullard coaching staff to Germany in the Spring to see what it”s like there.
Yovino Jr. says parents intersted in hosting a student next year can contact the Sister Cities Program or through him at the school.
The German students will visit the Fresno Fair on Thursday, and then travel with the Bullard High School football team to attend the football game at Madera High School on Friday, before they return to Germany on Monday, October 12th.
