(KMJ) – The City of Fresno’s Department of Public Utilities says the City’s water production totals for September 2015 did not meet its water conservation target of 28% for the month. And that sets the city up for the possibility of receiving a fine from state water officials.
The City says September water production totals show a 22.3% drop in usage from the same month in 2013. This follows a reduction in water consumption of 28% for the month of August 2015, 31% for July 2015 and 30% for the month of June of this year compared to the same months in 2013.
While the September total missed the state-mandated reduction goal by almost 6%, the continued overall decline in water usage for the four month reporting period between June and September stands at 28%.
If October water production misses the reduction goal, the City says it would not likely be able to reduce consumption enough between November 2015 and February 2016 when average water use drops dramatically.
