(KMJ) Early Saturday morning, Fresno Police Officers stopped a vehicle for a minor traffic violation in the area of Glenn and McKenzie in Central Fresno. The driver pulled to the curb and stopped, but then sped away before officers could approach it.
Officers pursued the vehicle to Van Ness and Freeway 180 where the pursuit was called off in the interest of public safety.
The Fresno Police Department’s Sky Watch Helicopter was able to locate the car and follow the suspect from the freeway180, then north on freeway 41. The suspect was clocked at speeds just under 100 mph while on freeway 41. The suspect continued his erratic driving when he exited onto Shaw and headed east.
After running several red lights at high speeds the suspect turned into the University Square Hotel on the corner of Cedar and Shaw. Once here the driver drove in circles around the hotel twice before jumping from his vehicle and fleeing through the hotel on foot.
The driver, Zachary Kinberger, was taken into custody just outside his grandmother’s hotel room. Kinberger was found to be under the influence of marijuana and prescription medication. He was also on felony probation for a weapons charge and had an open case for domestic violence, and assault with a weapon.
