(KMJ) Dozens of volunteers stayed busy over the weekend finishing the ongoing improvement projects on Rotary’s Storyland. All this is needed before the park reopens to the public over Labor Day.
Volunteers prepared the park’s recently repaired train, put a fresh coat of paint on its time-honored classics, and groomed the grounds for Storyland to make its debut to the community this weekend.
Since March 2015, the new Storyland/Playland board has led a community-wide fundraising campaign to raise the $850,000 needed to reopen the parks. In just under six months’ time, nearly $500,000 has been raised, thanks to countless donors, businesses and community members.
These funds, coupled with the hundreds of volunteers who have been working to turn back the hands of time on one of Fresno’s most treasured parks, are part of the effort to not only reopen Storyland/Playland, but to create a sustainable plan for its future.
Playland is expected to reopen next year.
