Forward Progress Stopped, Evacuation Warnings In Place For Pickup Fire In Madera County

MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KMJ/KFSN) — Evacuation orders have been lowered to warnings as crews work to contain the Pickup Fire burning in the Madera County mountains near Coarsegold.

The Madera County Sheriff’s Office says the warnings remain in place for residents between Road 415 and City View Drive (MAD-E0569 and MAD-E0569.)

CAL FIRE says crews responded to calls of a pickup truck on fire with a trailer attached to it on Road 415 just after 2 p.m. Wednesday.

When they arrived, they found the pickup truck fully engulfed in flames and spreading into nearby grass.

Officials say the fire burned about seven acres.

The California Highway Patrol says Road 415 to Jennifer Lane and Road 415 to Longo Road are closed due to the fire.

Fire crews will remain on scene to put out the flames for the next several hours.

The investigation continues as to what caused the pickup to catch fire.

The American Red Cross has set up a temporary evacuation shelter at the Oakhurst Community Center, located at 39800 Road 425B, Oakhurst, which is now open.

Crews are still working to determine when residents can be allowed back into their homes.
