UPDATE: FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ/KFSN) — Fresno’s infamous Tower District Rapist has been denied parole after going before the state parole board Friday morning.

This was his second time appearing in front of the board for parole.

He will not be able to try again for seven years.

Acosta was convicted of sexually assaulting at least nine women in 1991.

He was sentenced to 78 years in prison but has served only a portion of that time.

Under the law, he’s considered a youthful offender since he was 25 at the time of the attacks.

The possibility of his release received public pushback from not only his victims but several community leaders including District Attorney Lisa Smittcamp and Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer.
