FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Governor Jerry Brown has appointed 58-year-old Karen Smith as director of the California Department of Health.
The move follows the departure of Rob Chapman, who resigned from the post, amid a backlog of more than 11,000 complaints regarding long-term care facilities.
Smith will also have to find a new director of policy and programs, as Kathleen Billingsley resigned last week.
Her position requires senate confirmation.
