FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ/KFSN) — Multiple shots were fired after an argument between two groups broke out in this parking lot overnight.
Fresno Police say it was just after midnight on Sunday when they started receiving calls about a shooting near the Switch Lounge and Nightclub off North Blackstone and West Bullard avenues.
“When officers arrived, they found someone had been struck by gunfire, and evidence that indicated there had been an exchange of gunfire between two groups who were hanging out in the parking lot here,” Fresno Police Lieutenant Leslie Williams said.
Lieutenant Williams told Action News several cars and a man in his late twenties were struck by gunfire.
The man was shot in the lower body, and he’s now listed as stable at Community Regional Medical Center.
Video from early Sunday morning shows the parking lot packed with cars. Just a few feet away, videos posted to social media show a busy nightclub filled with people for a sold-out show.
“The information we have so far is that the involved parties were not frequenting any of the businesses here. They were just hanging out in the parking lot when some sort of disturbance occurred,” Lieutenant Williams SAID.
When Action News returned to the scene Sunday afternoon, there were no visible signs of a shooting in the parking lot — and employees at a few of the businesses said they didn’t know what happened.
Now, as the investigation continues, security camera footage could play a key role.
Action News spotted several cameras near the nightclub and nearby smoke shop — and police say that footage and witnesses from the scene are helping them identify the people involved.
