Merced, Calif – Merced City Manager Stephanie Dietz has announced the appointment of Steven Stanfield as the new Chief of Police, effective October 30, 2023. “Chief Stanfield brings a wealth of experience, dedication, and leadership to the position, ensuring the safety and security of our community”, Dietz said in a news release.
Chief Stanfield career has spanned 27 years in law enforcement in Modesto. He served with distinction in various roles within the Modesto Police Department, including helping develop and manage the city’s first HEART Team (Homeless Engagement and Response Team), CARE Unit (Community Assistance and Response Team), and Beat Health Unit, as well as developing the first Leadership Development Program within the agency.
Stanfield is currently assigned as Modesto Police Department’s Assistant Division Commander of Patrol Division where he oversees the city’s blue light camera program, the patrol schedule, Use of Force and Pursuit tracking, and manages the Real Time Crime Center.
Chief Stanfield succeeds Interim Chief Craig Gundlach.
Stanfield’s annual starting salary will be $200,000.00.
