(KMJ) — A double duty operation for the Fresno County Sheriff’s rescue team.
Sunday night the Eagle One helicopter rescued a stranded dirt bike rider in the high country. A day later deputies recovered his abandoned motorcycle.
Monday afternoon Doug Lyman of Clovis was reunited with his motorcycle. Two deputies handed it over.
On Sunday Lyman went for a ride in the wilderness northeast of Shaver Lake.
“Just go up there to ride off road. That’s what I like to do. I just got a little in trouble this time.”
Lyman didn’t take a drop of water and admits he lost his bearings. “When I stopped my motorcycle I didn’t have cell coverage. I walked, hiked up a mountain that I was on until I finally got it then I was able to call.
Lyman’s ride, the Sheriff’s Eagle One helicopter got there in less than an hour. “When the helicopter guy showed up I just hugged him. I just said thank you. I was so relieved.”
On the ride to town Lyman thought he may never see his motorcycle again. A day later sheriff’s deputies rode it out of the wilderness and handed it over to him at their substation in southeast Fresno. “I couldn’t be happier.”
Deputies even loaded it up on his truck. Lyman says the next time he goes riding the in the back country he will pack water and a more sophisticated GPS system.
