Death Penalty Still a Possibility for Fresno Double Murder Suspect

(KMJ) – The Fresno man accused of gunning down his parents over the weekend is now formally charged with their murders.

Here are the details, as released by the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office:

The Fresno County District Attorney’s Office has filed charges against Julian Charles McElhaney (22, of
Fresno) for the murder of his parents, his 55-year-old father, William McElhaney, and his 64-year-old
mother, Sylvia McElhaney.

It is alleged that on or about April 10, 2022, McElhaney shot and killed both of his parents at their home in Northeast Fresno.

The Felony Complaint filed in the Superior Court alleges that Julian McElhaney committed:
• Two (2) Counts of MURDER
• Two (2) Enhancements of PERSONAL USE OF A FIREARM CAUSING DEATH
• The Special Circumstance of MULTIPLE MURDERS

If convicted of all charges and allegations, McElhaney faces a potential death sentence or life in prison
without the possibility of parole. The District Attorney’s Office is currently conducting the necessary analysis on whether to seek the death penalty and will make an announcement on that decision at a later
date
