(KMJ) – A 17-year-old is killed in a crash Friday night in Fresno by a man the CHP says was driving under the influence.

The California Highway Patrol says the crash happened around 8:30 p.m. 25-year-old Michael Mendoza was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe north on Marks Avenue but failed to stop for the posted stop sign and entered the intersection at Jensen Avenue. He then crashed into the driver’s side of a GMC Yukon going west on Jensen.

Both drivers were taken to CRMC, where the driver of the Yukon later died from her injuries.

The Fresno Sheriff’s Office has identified that driver as 17-year-old Sarahi Ramirez. Authorities say she was a senior at W.E.B. DuBois Public Charter School in Fresno.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office says in 2018, Mendoza was arrested on DUI and firearms charges.

He was arrested for felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter. Upon his release from the hospital, Mendoza will be booked into the Fresno County jail.
