FRESNO (KMJ) — Thousands of flights have been canceled across the East Coast – with severe winter storms set to have a ripple effect and bring travel disruption across much of the country.
The departure and arrivals board at Fresno Yosemite International Airport currently shows no significant delays.
But staff there say they're keeping a close eye on the changing conditions.
"It's on a minute by minute basis", says FYI's Ronda Jorn. "Weather is a strange phenomenon – it comes when you least expect it and we just have to roll with what comes our way".
But she warns passengers might get delayed once they get to the major hubs – such as Dallas, Phoenix, or Los Angeles.
The situation in the valley is in stark contrast to the situation in New York City and across the East Coast.
"I think it's unlikely we'll see a normal schedule even on Wednesday", explains Daniel Baker – CEO of tracking site FlightAware. "It'll be a while before things come together. A lot of the other airports around the country that have a ton of flights going to the New York area are impacted as well".
At the latest count – more than 7000 flights have been canceled across the country according to FlightAware – with a further 2000 delayed.
Advice to those due to fly from the valley today is to check with your airline first before heading out.
