Kingsburg City Councilmember Charged by Fresno DA

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) — The Fresno County District Attorney’s Office has filed charges against Kingsburg City Councilmember Jewel Hurtado after being accused of DUI.

The Fresno DA says Hurtado was driving a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol level of .08 percent or higher, driving under the influence of alcohol, and speeding.

The DA’s Office says Hurtado was stopped on June 21 around 1:30 a.m. by the California Highway Patrol for going over the speed limit.

During the stop, officers noticed Hurtado to be exhibiting objective symptoms of being under the influence of alcohol.

Hurtado was then arrested and cited to appear in the Fresno County Superior Court on October 15, 2021 to face driving under the influence charges.

The misdemeanor complaint alleges Hurtado committed the following offenses:

  •  MISDEMEANOR DRIVING WITH A 08% OR HIGHER BLOOD ALCOHOL LEVEL [Vehicle Code section 23152(b)
  • MISDEMEANOR DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL [Vehicle Code section 23152(a)
  • SPEEDING GREATER THAN 65 MPH [Vehicle Code section 22349(a)

If convicted of all charges and allegations, Hurtado faces a maximum sentence of up to 6 months in jail.
