Governor Gavin Newsom will be making a stop in Bakersfield today.

The Governor’s office has said Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom will today visit a fitness center in Kern County now open at full capacity, where they will discuss the important benefits of exercise for physical and mental health – especially in light of the pandemic’s heavy toll.

As of June 15, the state has eliminated pandemic-related restrictions that have been in place over the past year, including physical distancing, capacity limits, county tier systems and masks in almost all settings for vaccinated Californians.

California has administered over 40 million vaccines, 16 million more than the next closest state, and surpassed President Biden’s goal a month early – over 70 percent of Californians 18 and older have received at least one dose. The state consistently has amongst the lowest case rates and transmission rates in the nation, and hospitalizations have dipped to the lowest point since March 2020.
