FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The $113 billion budget for 2015-16 calls for investing more than $530 million in water infrastructure, following the passage of Proposition 2.

Assembly Republican Leader Kristin Olsen of Modesto tells KMJ News, “I was pleased to hear Governor Brown make reference to last year’s water bond. It’s one thing for the voters to pass a bond that we all worked very hard to see; it’s another thing now to see those projects actually move forward in a way that will serve the needs of so many communities.”

Fresno Assemblyman Henry T. Perea says, “I’m pleased that the governor is moving forward right way on the water bond. The voters sent a strong message that water infrastructure is important.”

The budget also seeks to strengthen the Rainy Day Fund, spend more on education, and hold down tuition at public colleges.

However, there remains a sharp divide in opinion over how effective Brown’s proposal will be, when it comes to tackling debt.
