FRESNO (KMJ) — A national food company has given a truck-sized donation of food to help the people most at need in the valley.

All 40,000 lbs of frozen chicken landed at the Community Food Bank in Fresno, and it all came from Tyson Foods.

The group say they want to help the 280,000 people per month who rely on the food bank.

“One of our themes at Tyson Foods is making a difference. So when you have 113,000 strong trying to make a difference, hopefully we can make a difference”, says West Coast Director Michael Sanders.

“One out of six in the US have a hard time finding food. So it’s important for us to help shrink those numbers”.

Also at the big handover was President and CEO of Community Food Bank Andrew Souza and Congressman Jim Costa.

“The donation means a lot”, says the Congressman. “Having healthy, nutritious food is job number one for the community food bank. These 40,000 lbs of poultry will provide a great compliment to the produce that we see here”.

“It’s ironic that, because of this fourth consecutive dry year, we now have close to maybe a million acres out of six million acres in California that has not been planted”.

The donation was a part of Tyson Food’s ‘Know Hunger’ campaign, and the truckload of frozen chicken is expected to be ready for delivery by the end of the week.
