Hiker Rescued After 25-Foot Fall in Yosemite

upper yosemiteYosemite National Park officials say a woman hiking above Upper Yosemite Fall survived a nearly 25-feet plunge over the weekend.

The hiker, identified as 28-year old Anja Welten of The Netherlands, landed on a granite slab and broke her pelvis on Saturday. She was about 100 yards from the trail and just above where Yosemite Creek drops 1,400 feet.

The California Highway Patrol was called in and Welten was taken by helicopter to Ahwahnee Meadow.  There an ambulance drove her to a hospital outside the park.

Emergency crews say she was conscious and alert but also in a great deal of pain.
