(KMJ) – An 11-year old girl is dead and ten others injured after a big rig slams into several cars on Highway 99 near Selma.

The California Highway Patrol says the crash happened in a construction zone on the 99 near the Mountain View exit around 1:15 p.m. Sunday. Officers say northbound traffic was stopped but the driver of a big rig hauling cherries did not react in time and slammed into five other vehicles.

That impact set off a fire on the rig, which spread to three other vehicles. Officers say an 11-year old girl was killed in the collision. And seven others were rushed to the hospital for treatment of moderate to major injuries.

Officers do not believe drugs or alcohol played a factor in this crash.
