(KMJ) – The Fresno Grizzlies announce the passing of the club’s founder, John Carbray.
The 80-year old spearheaded the efforts to bring Triple-A baseball to the city. And he saw that dream become a reality when the Grizzlies began play in 1998. Carbray then managed day-to-day operations for the franchise’s first five years.
In 2002, He was named Executive of the Year of the Pacific Coast League. And, in 2018, Carbray was inducted into the Fresno Athletic Hall of Fame.
In sharing the news of his passing, the Fresno Grizzlies issued this statement via Twitter: We are saddened to learn of the passing of Fresno Grizzlies founder John Carbray. He and his wife Diane are responsible for bringing Triple-A baseball to the Central Valley for the community to enjoy. Our sincerest condolences are extended to our dear friend Diane and the rest of John’s family and friends – he will be sorely missed but we will ensure his legacy is remembered at Chukchansi Park.
