“Big Latch-On” Takes Place Saturday In Fresno, Across The World

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) The “Big Latch-On” takes place Saturday, in Fresno and around the world.

Breastfeeding moms across the world are gathering to try to set a new record for the most women breastfeeding simultaneously for one minute.

The goal is to increase awareness, supporting working moms who breastfeed, and reduce the stigma of breastfeeding.

“They just get judged by the public, and people that don’t quite understand that they’re no trying to be showing off, they’re just trying to feed their babies,” says Silvia Ewertz, a breastfeeding counselor for Fresno EOC.

Ewertz says historically, breastfeeding wasn’t always such a taboo.

“Formula industries started to see there was a lot of profit and more and more started to push on it, and we got to the point where now it seems like it a bad thing to do is breastfeeding instead of the opposite,” says Ewertz.

In Fresno, the 13th Annual Breastfeeding Awareness Walk and Celebration is taking place on Saturday, August 4, at Woodward Park’s Lake View Shelter.

Check-in begins at 8:00 am, the walk begins at 9:00, the Latch-On is at 10:30.

To keep mom and babies safe and healthy in the warm temperatures, Ewertz says water will be provided and the entire event will be over before noon.
