FRESNO, CA (KMJ) The bullet train is slowing down, at least in one key stretch.
The Los Angeles Times is reporting that new documents from the High Speed Rail Authority show the stretch between San Jose and Gilroy will no longer have dedicated tracks and will only reach speeds of 110 miles per hour – rather than the original promised speeds of up to 220 mph.
The decision is estimated to save nearly $2-billion dollars on controversial project. A newly-released business plan pins the total cost of the project at $78.3 billion but new HSRA CEO Brian Kelly admits the cost could rise much higher.
