FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – More than 600 Fresno Unified Employees and their families attended the “2018 Excellence in Education” awards.

45 finalists received plaques, after being nominated by their peers for their exemplary work in serving students and the school district.
“Selecting the winners among our Excellence in Education finalists was no easy task. Each has a passion for their job and truly cares for the students and families of Fresno Unified. I couldn’t be more proud to have them all on our team.” – Superintendent Bob Nelson.
Five people were declared winners in their category:
- Classified Employee of the Year – Myra Ramirez, home school liaison at Del Mar Elementary School
- Educator of the Year, Elementary School – Carlanda Williams, Greenberg Elementary School

Gaston Middle School P.E. Teacher Minith Real won “Educator of the Year.”
“This award goes to all the teachers who put in all the hard work every day and don’t ask for recognition. They do it because they love the job. And honestly teaching is probably one of the most important professions around. You have the chance to influence the future. Our kids are the future and that’s who I look at what I do. It’s not about me it’s about the kids and about our future.” – Minith Real, Educator of the Year.
Minith Real, Myra Ramirez, and Joy Nunes will move on to the Fresno County Educator of the Year awards.
