FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — California’s overall population continues to slow; but, the population of those 65 and older, is expected to nearly double in the next 15 years.

According to the Public Policy Institute of California, that segment will become more racially diverse, signaling a need for culturally competent care.

Most care for the elderly comes from the federal government, although the institute says the state, may need additional resources.

But even as the senior population expands, the overall death rate will climb, and with a declining birth rate, total population growth could slow more drastically.
