FRESNO,CA (KMJ) – A man who escaped from a psychiatric hospital in Hawaii is caught in Stockton.
59 year-old Randall Saito was considered “extremely dangerous” by Hawaiian authorities, suffering from sexual sadism and necrophilia.
Honolulu Police say on Sunday evening he had escaped from the Hawaii State Hospital.
Somehow Saito managed to take a chartered plane to Maui and then flew to San Jose.
Honolulu Police received a tip that Saito was on his way to his brother’s home in Stockton, and informed Stockton law enforcement.
The San Joaquin Sheriff’s Office Facebook page posted that Saito was arrested around 10:30 am Wednesday, November 15th at a gas station near near Highway 99 & Waterloo Road in Stockton, after a taxi cab driver called officers.
Saito had been was committed after being found not guilty by reason of insanity for the gruesome murder of a woman back in 1979. The victim, Sandra Yamashiro, was shot and repeatedly stabbed before her body was found in her car at a mall.
Saito is now being charged with escape in the second degree, a felony with a maximum sentence of 5 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
