FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – Many people renew their wedding vows but not everyone does it surrounded by 700 cats.
Diana Stevens and her husband, Walter McMahon, traveled from New Hampshire to Parlier for a vow renewal ceremony on Friday, October 27th at the Cat House on the Kings sanctuary.
For their 10th wedding anniversary, they were looking for something very simple, quick, and hoped to share their love while helping others.
“Walter and I met in October of 2005 and married October 27th, 2007. We live in Londonderry, New Hampshire and have four cats; Pumpkin 18, Itchy 9, Sophie 6 and Ziggy 4. All are rescues and they keep us very busy! Walter is a truck driver and I work as a police dispatcher,” says Stevens, who learned of the cat sanctuary on its Facebook page and decided that the site would be the cat’s meow.
The couple flew in to San Diego before driving up to the Central Valley and to The Cat House on the Kings located at 7120 S. Kings River Road in Parlier, about 30 minutes southeast of Fresno.
The Cat House on the Kings has hosted other weddings and founder, Lynea Lattanzio, (above right) was the officiate for the couple who are celebrating 10 years of marriage.
Walter and Diana stayed after the ceremony to volunteer with the animals
This comes at an important time for The Cat House on the Kings as they are in preparations for their big fundraiser, the Holiday Open House.
