FRESNO, CA (KMJ) The Pier Fire continues to burn, uncontrolled, across dry Tulare County land.
As of Sunday, the blaze, burning east of Springville has charred more than 17,000 acres and is 0% contained.
Investigators say the wildfire is human caused, but have not said exactly how it began.
Mandatory evacuations remain in place for residents along Balch Park Road (north of Hwy 190), Mountain Home Conservation Camp, Upper Rio Vista, Cow Mountain, Sequoia Crest, Mountain Aire, Rogers Camp, Pierpoint Springs, Cedar Slope, Camp Nelson, Doyle Springs, Alpine Village, Wishon. Meanwhile, voluntary evacuations are in effect for Springville and Ponderosa.
The Railroad Fire is still burning near Yosemite National Park and is now 15% contained.
The wildfire has burned nearly 6,000 acres along Hwy 41 between the communities of Sugar Pine and Fish Camp. Several structures have been destroyed.
Mandatory evacuations were ordered Sunday for the Cedar Valley Subdivision due to an “unexpected spot fire over the line from the Railroad Fire”, according to Madera County emergency officials. An evacuation shelter is in place at Oakhurst Community Center.
The cause remains under investigation. Visitors to the area should keep in mind that entry into Yosemite National Park has been affected. Highway 41 is closed in both directions from south of Wawona to Cedar Valley Drive. Yosemite visitors should use Hwy 49 to Hwy 140 or 120 for entrance into the park.
