Report Breaks Down Average Cost of Owning a New Car in Calif.

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Buying a new car in California now costs an average of nearly $8,500 a year, or a little over $700 a month.

That’s according to the latest AAA analysis, which looked at sedans, minivans, SUVs, pickup trucks, hybrids, and electrics.

Small sedans remain the most economical vehicles.

Green vehicles offer some of the best energy savings, although they rapidly depreciate.

However, as sales remain somewhat stagnant due to low gas prices, dealers are more likely to offer incentives for electric and hybrid models.
