FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — California’s minimum wage would rise by $1 each year until it reaches $15 an hour in 2021, if a union-backed ballot initiative succeeds.

Proponents have been cleared to gather signatures. They’ll needed 366,000 by January 27th, to qualify for the November 2016 ballot.

California’s minimum wage is set to increase to $10 an hour next year, although several cities have already approved their own increases.
