Feds Say Controversial Twin Tunnels Plan Wouldn’t Harm Endangered Species

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said Monday that the Gov. Jerry Brown’s controversial twin tunnels proposal — contrary to claims by opponents — will not further endanger species.

The plan calls for two 40-foot, 35-mile tunnels in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, which would be used for bringing fresh water from the north, to the central and southern parts of California.

In addition to the concerns over their impact on wildlife, critics are questioning the cost of tunnels.
