FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The California Department of Motor Vehicles says it’s preparing to allow companies to test autonomous vehicles on public roads without a backup driver.
Major automakers are racing to roll out various designs, which in addition to the lack of a person, would be without a steering wheel and pedals.
Ford plans to have a self-driving model available in the next 5 years.
While the concept make take some time to gain significant traction, DMV officials believe the technology could make roads safer.
