Hexavalent Chromium 6 Found in Central West Well

CENTRAL WEST

Higher than normal levels of a cancer-causing substance has been found in the water at Central West High School.

Superintendent Mike Berg sent out a notice that addressed the situation.

Hexavalent Chromium 6 was found in the school’s well.

The State Water Resources Control Board identified the chromium level as 50% higher than the maximum allowed.

It could raise the risk of cancer after long term exposure.

WATER

The district is taking precautions, and shutting off the potable water supplies.

When the school year starts, the West High campus and the West Arts Center will have bottled water.

Central Unified is looking for a permanent solution including digging a 700 foot well, but if that doesn’t work, Central West may try to link to the water supplies in the cities of Fresno or Kerman.
